Soft Pretzel Pincushion DIY

I looove a good soft pretzel. Since being pregnant, my feelings for them have definitely only increased as my main preggo craving. So you could say they have been on the brain lately (I even incorporated them into the nursery design as well).

I was using my cute cactus pincushions I made a while back in my sewing room, and it hit me that maybe a soft pretzel pincushion was just what I needed next—with nacho cheese on it of course!

Supplies:
-1/8 yard of tan cozy fleece fabric (or whatever color you want!)
-small piece of yellow felt
-fabric glue
–Poly-fil stuffing
-fabric scissors
–cutting mat, rotary cutter, and ruler
–mini pom pom trim for salt

Start by folding your fabric in half so it’s doubled over into two layers. Using your ruler, rotary cutter and mat, cut a strip of fabric that is 2″ wide by 20″ long. Use fabric scissors to round the edges.

Sew all the way around the edge of your pretzel with a 1/4″ seam allowance and make sure to leave a 2″ gap so you can turn your pretzel right side out again through the hole.

Patiently turn your pretzel right side out (you may want the help of a long handled spoon here) and stuff with Poly-Fil through the hole until your pretzel has a nice full “log” shape. Hand sew the opening closed with a hidden stitch.

Once your pretzel is stuffed, fold it into the classic pretzel shape you see above and use your needle and thread to tack the ends of the pretzel rods onto the pretzel below (where the pins are placed in the photo).

For the nacho cheese topping, cut 2 4″ long squiggles out of yellow felt, and fabric glue one onto the top crossing of the pretzel arms and the other onto the other crossing underneath it. 

To make a “fun” pretzel, I also made one out of pink fleece, and then cut off tiny pom poms from some decorative trim to use as large fluffy salt pieces (you can sew or fabric glue the salt in place).

It’s up to you if you want to add some poms to your regular cheesy pretzel as well for a salt detail or make up some other topping that’s your favorite! 

Yum! I mean, cute! I know that some of you are thinking, “Oh I thought that was mustard on top, not cheese,” and if you’re a mustard-on-a-soft-pretzel-kind-of-gal, then you can totally pretend yours is mustard.

Although if I had to pick, I’m definitely a nacho cheese girl myself. You could also use little white seed beads for salt if you’d rather have some smaller looking salt pieces, but I love how the bigger poms look on the pink pretzel.

This may only serve to make me hungry every time I sew now, but hey, they are so cute I think it’s worth it! xo. Laura
